Not only do we have grapes, we also have a working vineyard on the Vineyard, the Chicama 1 Vineyards […]. They grow grapes and make and bottle wine right here on the Island. The grapes used to make wine aren't native ; the local ones would be too bitter. There are about a dozen different varieties, all excellent. You can only get it, however, in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown ; the rest of the Island is dry ! Actually, bottled wine can be sold in any town, but it can only be served in the two wet towns. If you go out to dinner in a dry town, you need to remember to « bring your own ». Restaurant will gladly provide the corkscrews or whatever you need.         1. “ Chicama ” is a Native American name, which, according to historians probably meant “ fishing place ”.
