Ce livre, qui se veut
essentiellement tourné vers la beauté des îles,
n'a aucune prétention scientifique. Il voudrait simplement
apporter une description aussi exacte que possible de ce que
fut l'histoire des Marquises et donner quelques aperçus
de la vie quotidienne aujourd'hui.
Notre désir
serait aussi de faire partager aux lecteurs le sentiment très
fort d'avoir, durant quelques mois, à pied, à cheval,
en 4x4, mais surtout en voilier et sur l'Aranui, vécu
dans un endroit proche du paradis, par la beauté de ses
îles, l'accueil chaleureux des Marquisiens, la découverte

of the beauty of these islands and has no scientific pretensions.
We simply want to describe the history of the Marquesas as accurately
as possible and to give a few insights into the current daily
life.
We also wish to share with the
reader the strong feelings inspired by the beauty of these islands,
the warm welcome of the Marquesans and the discovery of a profoundly
original culture and its renaissance. We lived for several months
in this place close to paradise, and explored the islands on
foot, by horseback or 4-wheel drive, but above all by sailboat
